Session Details

Since every child and family is unique, it is important to have phone and/or email consultations before each session to discuss your expectations. I offer sessions at my in-home studio for up to 5 people or at a location of your choice within 25 miles of Wylie. Possible location sessions include your home (indoors or outdoors), one of the local lakes or parks, or any location you feel would be great for your family.

Sessions usually last between 1 to 2 hours. It is my goal to have everyone relaxed and not feel rushed. You are welcome to bring a few different outfits. Simple, solid colors are best. Stripes and plaids can be worn but might be distracting in the portrait. Shirts with large logos and writing are very distracting in portraits and should not be worn. Feel free to bring snacks and drinks for the children. A little snack break does wonders sometimes for the kiddos!

For the studio sessions, I have several different background colors – white, black, gray, cream, brown, dark blue, light blue, and pink. More than one background can be used during a session.

Outdoor location sessions are best scheduled for early morning right after sunrise or late afternoon about 1 ½ hours before sunset to take advantage of the best lighting. However, outdoor session can be scheduled anytime during the day. For indoor location sessions, either natural light or my portable studio light will be used.

Types of Sessions

Maternity Sessions: Do you want to capture this miraculous, beautiful phase of your life? With maternity pictures, the focus is the belly with or without exposing the belly. Don't worry if you have stretch marks – we can hid them if you want! Maternity pictures are best between week 33 and 36.

Newborns: Newborns under two weeks old are ideal and under 1 week old is even better. These sessions typically last the full 2 hours or sometimes a little longer due to diaper changes and feedings. Newborn babies with full bellies are happy and sleepy babies! You are welcome to nurse or feed your child in the studio. Sometimes, feeding schedules will be off due to the need to comfort a baby during a session. But don't worry, babies get back on their normal schedule quickly! Newborn sessions can include just the sweet little baby all by him/herself or it can also include your newborn with his/her new family (mom and dad holding baby, mom and baby, dad and baby, sibling(s) with baby, and/or entire family).

Babies (3 weeks-11 months): These sessions typically last 1 ½ to 2 hours due to diaper changes and feeding. Babies with full bellies are happy babies! You are welcome to nurse or feed your child in the studio. For the older babies, Gerber snacks or cheerios are sometimes session savers! Babies change so much in the first year, and it is fun to see how much they change through portraits!

One Year Sessions (with or without smash the cake): These are so much fun yet sometimes chaotic due to the little one being very mobile! No worries, I have many tricks to get the best possible portraits of your one year old. Don't forget the snack and drink for your little one which can quickly save the session! Parents really enjoy the end of the session with the Smash the Cake! You never know how your child is going to react to his or her first piece of cake! You are welcome to bring your own small white or yellow cake with frosting (but not a chocolate cake or frosting), or I can provide one for your session for $5 extra.

Toddler Sessions: Toddlers are so much fun and are so curious about the world around them but can have a melt-down without notice. I'll be honest that toddlers between the ages of 1-3 are very unpredictable! You never know how the session will go! But please don't let that discourage you from getting your child's portrait taken during this age when they change so much from year to year! I have many tricks to get the best portraits of your toddler! The key to this session is PATIENCE from both me and the parents! Don't forget the snack and drink!

Children Sessions: Ages 3 and up can be so much fun to photograph! Those little personalities are really starting to shine, but don't be surprised if they give us that goofy, cheesy smile! I try not to say "cheese" during a session with children. I talk to them, tell jokes, or anything else I can think of to capture those natural smiles! Don't forget a snack and drink for them!

Big Kids /Young Adults: Ages 8 and up are also fun to photograph! I try to get them relaxed and talk to them to capture those natural smiles and shining personality!

Family Sessions: Family sessions usually take 1 ½ to 2 hours. Family sessions are great for capturing your family at the current stage of your life whether you are a family with plans to grow or if your family is complete. Portraits are a great way to see how your family grows over the years. A typical family session includes the following parts: Entire family, mom and children, dad and children, children together, each child, mom and dad together.
